Invercargill Airport is required to test the airport’s multi-agency emergency response plan and on Wednesday October 25 2023 is doing just that with a live emergency response exercise. The exercise taking place between 11am and 2pm is being driven by the airport’s fire team and involves external agencies such as the Invercargill Fire Brigade, St John Ambulance, NZ Police, the Salvation Army and Victim Support. The nature and scale of the emergency is kept under wraps to see how people will react in a real life situation and to test the Standard Operational Procedures (SOP’s) of all responding agencies in accordance with the IAL Airport Emergency Plan. A full debrief involving all agency participants is held following the event to determine any recommendations or issues raised.
