Invercargill Airport Chairman Joe O’Connell is pleased to announce that Invercargill based construction company Amalgamated Builders Ltd (ABL) has been awarded the main construction contract as part of the terminal upgrade project. This includes demolition of the existing terminal building in two stages, construction of a new terminal building and erection of a temporary baggage reclaim enclosure.
ABL were selected over a number of other local and national companies through a prequalification process that began in February. ABL is a privately-owned company with strong Southland roots, more than 40 years’ industry expertise and four sites throughout the South Island including Invercargill and Queenstown.
Mr O’Connell said “We were pleased with the quality of tenders received which resulted in a final tender price that met with our expectations. The airport company still anticipates the terminal building to be completed by Christmas 2015 and that the $13M investment previously committed to by the shareholders will be sufficient to fund the completion of this project.
ABL director, shareholder and area manager Bruce Middleton is looking forward to getting to work on the project. ”We are very pleased to be involved in such a significant project for Southland”
Construction for the airport terminal project is scheduled to commence in July.
